Lakendra's Breastfeeding Story

Hello!

I’m a mom of two and currently fully breastfeeding my youngest child. When I had my first child I started out breastfeeding until I experienced eclampsia 5 days after giving birth which caused me to not be able to continue breastfeeding. When I had my second child I was VERY determined to try breastfeeding again and it has been 7 very interesting months. I love the close bond I have with her while breastfeeding she has been so healthy and strong. But what I can honestly say as a black breastfeeding mom is that it takes WORK and dedication. I wish more people/employers supported breastfeeding moms. I find myself using my breast milk for both my children from feeding to soothing a burn or bathing. I enjoy the one on one time while breastfeeding and seeing my child grow and know that it was all me and my breast milk; it’s such a rewarding feeling. I can honestly say I’m still learning different things and ways to increase my supply and maintain it as well. My breastfeeding journey I have learned that I need to advocate more for myself to maybe make some changes that will better help someone else in their journey.
