mlk day. Just another day off work or school for most. Unaware of the great sacrifices of this man, including his life, so that we may have just that . A day off.
the irony.

to some , progress has not been made . They have not tasted the sweet fruit of his gracious labor.

unarmed truth . Unconditional love. These words send chills down my spine.
how many of us really know what these words mean ?
I’m sure we all can pin point At least one moment in our lives where armed truth has cut deep into our quick tongues & conditional love has spewed from our desperate hearts; Casting judgement upon those who dared to disagree . Defending our beliefs at all costs, regardless of the damage & trauma it causes . We all know how it feels to be on either side of that far too well . Whether it were being forced to go to Church service every Sunday morning regardless of how you felt about it or choosing a major you had no interest in because you had to make your parents proud . Each of these were acts of love . Just a love with conditions .
but what about unarmed truth and unconditional love.

We’ve looked it in the eye on several occasions, even if we were unable to recognize it . Whether it was in the smile of a child or the face of a pet . Unaware of the conditions, they know nothing but unconditional.

Hate is taught . Fear is taught . And ironically, ignorance is taught. A choice each and every one of us makes the moment we shield ourselves from the truth simply to protect our own illusions & beliefs . The truth is all around us . If the light is on and you refuse to open your eyes to see the room around you, you’re to blame when you run into the wall. Yet , we often blame everyone but ourselves.

mlk was one man with a dream. One rain drop in a vast ocean of crashing waves, but that didn’t stop him from heading to shore.
with that being said, you alone can make an impact just by living more mindfully. Not only by spreading unconditional love and light to every being that crosses your path regardless of race , gender , social class etc , but ensuring that the very person that looks back at you in the mirror every morning feels it too.
so starting today, instead of taking the day off , make it a day on & serve others unarmed truth and unconditional love on a silver platter.
